THE HIGHEST ever wave in Irish water was recorded yesterday, according to Met Eireann.

Meteorologists said sea conditions, about 60 miles out to sea, were the most serious they had ever experienced at that particular point. The Irish Coastguard said they had recorded winds of up to 140km per hour off the north-western coast yesterday.

However, the storms did calm overnight, giving way to more cold weather early this morning with rain, sleet and wet snow expected in northern parts of the country.
