LOWER-RANKED staff at EBS are preparing to strike throughout Christmas week after being told they will not receive their traditional extra month’s salary with their December pay cheque.

The former building society, which has been merged with AIB, offered affected staff interest-free loans over 12-24 months in a bid to ease the blow.

This came after the Department of Finance intervened to stop the perceived bonus arrangement, which was built into the contracts of 370 employees.
