Gilmore: Tax rate will not change

EAMON GILMORE has insisted Ireland’s low corporate tax rate is off the table in any negotiations to solve the debt crisis.

French president Nicolas Sarkozy suggested on Thursday that unfair tax competition was one of the problems in the eurozone and would have to be addressed as part of a broader move towards economic convergence.

His remarks were seen as a thinly-veiled swipe at EU states such as Ireland which have low corporate tax regimes that attract multinational business.
