No problem with Garda searches — as long as they don’t bring mud in

A WELSH biochemist who enjoyed growing and smoking her own cannabis gave an undertaking to let gardaí search her property any time they wanted for the next 12 months.

However, the colourful defendant, Sionad Jones, aged 52, of Maughanaclea, Kealkil, Bantry, couldn’t resist telling Cork Circuit Criminal Court that she would have no problem having gardaí in her house provided they didn’t bring in mud on their shoes.

Judge Seán Ó Donnabháin said she could have far more serious problems than mud in her house if she was not prepared to allow officers into her home for random searches.
