MORE than one in 10 mothers smack their children “now and again” when they misbehave.

However, mothers with a higher level of education are less likely to smack their children, according to latest data from Growing Up in Ireland.

The study points out that discipline is an important part of parenting and effective, fair discipline has been linked with more positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing later in life.
