JUDGES will be hit with pay cuts of between 16% and 23% from January 1.

In last month’s referendum on the issue, the public voted to amend the Constitution and enable the Government to cut judicial pay.

Last night, the Government pushed legislation through the Dáil to give effect to the referendum result. The legislation provides for both the public service pay cut and pension levy to be applied to the judiciary.
