SIX months after rumours began that more than 1,000 jobs are to go at Aviva, staff representatives have finally been given a clearer indication of what parts of the business will be affected, where the jobs are likely to go, and when.

Up to 1,250 positions at the health insurer are earmarked to either be outsourced or scrapped. Yesterday, the workers’ trade union was told none of the positions would go before Christmas. The first redundancies now appear likely to be in March at the earliest.

Since the company announced the redundancy drive at the end of October, staff had been given no detail as to where and exactly when jobs would be lost.
