UP to 1,700 staff at Bord na Móna are to be balloted for strike action over the company’s failure to give them a 3.5% pay increase.

According to the UNITE, SIPTU and TEEU trade unions, the Labour Court ruled some weeks ago that workers had a valid claim for the increase.

They say that rather than honouring that claim, the company offered to replace the increase with a bonus scheme, a move which was unacceptable to their members.
