Outbursts after sexual assault trial thrown out

THERE were emotional outbursts at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court yesterday when the trial of a man accused of sexually assaulting his ex-wife’s niece was thrown out.

The now 26-year-old woman ran from court in tears as her family shouted insults at the accused and the people there to support him.

The 66-year-old Dublin man had pleaded not guilty to 13 charges of sexually assaulting the girl at three different locations on dates between January 1992 and August 1996 when the girl was between aged six and 11 years old.
