THE Government is to flesh out plans to cut the number of people working in the public sector to under 283,000 in a reform programme due to be published today.

At the moment there are more than 300,000 public servants and there is an existing agreement under the Croke Park deal to reduce this by not replacing staff.

The goal is to slim the figure down by a further 27,000 by 2015. This is set to be part of at least 200 cost-saving targets the Government will set itself.
