A MOTORWAY that would have cut the travel time between Cork and Limerick by half an hour will not now go ahead, the Department of Transport has confirmed.

Some €20 million has already been spent on initial stages of the M20, but the €1 billion project is among those that will be scrapped as transport bears the brunt of capital spending cuts.

Major projects, including a €3bn metro in Dublin’s North city and an underground Dart connecting Heuston and Connolly stations, have also been shelved.
