‘No parent should have to go through this heartache’

A BEREAVED mother has spoken of her “extraordinary, life-changing heartache and pain” after losing her 22-year-old daughter in a car crash.

In a victim impact statement to Wexford Circuit Criminal Court, Rita Martin described how she felt she had lost her “heart and soul” when her daughter, Lena Doyle, from The Ballagh, Adamstown, Co Wexford, died when the car in which she was a passenger crashed at high speed.

“It was like someone had managed to reach into my innermost being and was sucking the very life out of me, leaving me cold and numb,” she told the court.
