Offenders extradited under European arrest warrants doubles

THE number of offenders extradited from Ireland to other EU member states doubled last year compared to 2009, according to figures released by Justice Minister Alan Shatter.

The minister said that 161 people were extradited in 2010 under the European Arrest Warrant Act, compared with 69 in the previous year.

“Of those surrendered, 87 were sent to Poland and 34 were sent to Britain,” Mr Shatter said.
