CONVICTED armed robber Frank Ward, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for shooting publican Charlie Chawke in a robbery over eight years ago, has failed in a bid to take his case to the Supreme Court.

Chawke attacker fails in court bid

Ward, aged 58, was jailed at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in 2007 after pleading guilty to assault causing serious harm, robbery, possession of a firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence and two counts of possession of a firearm with intent to resist arrest on October 6, 2003.

Mr Chawke was shot in the leg by Ward outside the Goat Grill pub in Goatstown. His right leg had to be amputated above the knee and he was robbed of about €50,000.
