Delay in personal injury cases embarrassing, says judge

A HIGH Court judge has called for action to tackle the growing personal injuries waiting list, which he described as “embarrassing” and “unacceptable”.

Mr Justice John Quirke told waiting barristers and litigants seeking a hearing date for personal injuries cases that there were 55 cases on his list including some with “catastrophic injuries” and there were no available courts or judges for them to be heard.

He said he had made a number of complaints last year and since the start of the new court term over the growing waiting times and it “needs to be addressed by someone”.
