THE number of people on waiting lists for treatment in Irish hospitals has increased by 39% since the start of the year — a massive rise of 8,000 people.

Figures revealed in the HSE’s latest performance monitoring report (PMR) show that between January and the end of August, the total number of adults and children waiting more than three months for hospital care continued to grow.

According to the figures, detailed on irishhealth.com, at the end of August there were 28,657 people waiting over 12 weeks for operations or less serious procedures.
