TWO students shocked by the number of speeding cars passing through a West Cork village have won a major road safety award.

Students are ‘leading lights’ in road safety

Niamh Kearney, 14, and Tadhg O’Shea, 15, both pupils at Coláiste Pobail Bheanntraí in Bantry, have received the Road Safety Authority (RSA) Supreme Award for their traffic calming initiative at Kealkil village.

Local gardaí spent two days helping them monitor vehicles travelling through the village, which has a 50km/h speed limit.
