Man charged with assaulting woman

A 33-YEAR-OLD man charged with the assault of a woman in Boyle, Co Roscommon, has been remanded in custody after appearing before Ballinasloe District Court yesterday.

Man charged with assaulting woman

John Lynch, of 39 Church View, Boyle, Co Roscommon, was charged with assaulting Anita O’Hara, causing her harm, at 39 Church View, Boyle, on October 3, contrary to section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.

Lynch was remanded in custody to appear before Boyle District Court next Thursday.

Garda Paul Kenny gave evidence of arresting Lynch on Wednesday at an address at Ballymote, Co Sligo. He said Lynch made no reply to the charge.

Supt Tom Mullarkey said he was opposing bail and applied to have Lynch remanded in custody until next week. Lynch, dressed in jeans, a blue sports top and baseball hat, spoke only briefly during the short hearing to confirm to Judge Geoffrey Browne that he did not have a solicitor.

The case was adjourned briefly until a solicitor, Ciara Macklin of Fair & Murtagh Solicitors, was appointed to represent Lynch.

Defence solicitor Ms Macklin did not object to the Garda application and Judge Browne remanded Lynch in custody to appear before Boyle District Court next Thursday.
