Clayton’s former PA faces trial for €3m theft

THE former personal assistant of Adam Clayton will stand trial next year on 184 counts relating to the alleged embezzlement of millions of euro from the U2 bass guitarist.

Carol Hawkins, aged 48, of Leinster Road, Rathmines, Dublin, was charged in the district court in January of 184 counts under the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act 2001. The charges relate to theft of various sums of money of up to €3 million from bank accounts in the name of Mr Clayton on dates from 2005 until 2008.

Yesterday, Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard that Hawkins has elected for a jury trial, which is to take between three and four weeks.
