LONG-AWAITED plans to help troubled mortgage owners have come under fire from consumer and housing advocates, who said the measures were inadequate.

The recommendations of the Keane report also stop short of offering real solutions, claimed opposition TDs.

Minister for Finance Michael Noonan defended the proposals. His department said the measures would cost €35 million a year to roll-out and allow troubled homeowners remain under their roofs.
