€650,000 damages for brain-damaged woman

A 52-YEAR-OLD brain- damaged woman hospitalised in a “minimally conscious” state for the past 15 years following a heart attack after delivering a baby boy secured €650,000 damages in the High Court yesterday. The case was settled without admission of liability.

The proceedings were taken against the Coombe Lying-In Hospital, Dublin, who denied the claim by the woman Christine Fay, who sued through her brother, Gerald Fay, of Old Court Road, Bohernabreena, Co Dublin.

The case came before Ms Justice Mary Irvine for ruling after counsel for the hospital told the judge they were consenting to the €650,000 settlement.
