Apprentice hopefuls ready to do battle
This year’s winning Apprentice will receive a package worth €200,000. The prize will be made up of a €100,000 in cash and a further €100,000 worth of office space, communication and IT equipment, marketing support, legal and accounting services and advertising. Cullen’s aide Brian Purcell is also contributing to the prize, with €40,000 worth of PR consultancy from Insight Consultants.
The fourth series of the show introduces a new format. Candidates seeking to be Cullen’s next apprentice will no longer be working for him — instead they’ll go into partnership with him, working on a new idea for a business or an existing business.
Among the contestants are two Cork hopefuls, 30-year-old Sandra Murphy, manager of the Rising Tide restaurant in Glounthaune and 29-year-old Peter Nielsen, a senior channel account manager with McAfee.
Peter Nielsen was born and raised in Denmark by his Cork-born mother, Mary, but returned to live here after finishing school.
In 1999, after completing his secondary education, Peter’s mother made the decision to move him and his brother, Barry, back to Cork.
Peter was offered a job in a customer care position in Siemens at the age of 16 because he speaks fluent Danish.
In 2009, he began working for his current employer, McAfee.
Peter set up his own clothing label, Evicted, in 2009, overseeing all marketing, branding and the development of the website www.evictedwear.com.
Cork-born Sandra joined forces with her parents and bought The Rising Tide bar and restaurant in Glounthaune in 2005.
The Rising Tide has since won awards such as a Best Pub with Food 2009, awarded by Hospitality Ireland, and has been recommended by foodies Georgina Campbell, Lucinda O’Sullivan and Paolo Tullio. Sandra is also a member of Good Food Ireland.
The Apprentice will run every Monday from October 3 to December 19 at 9pm.
