Government mulls lifting €500k cap for AIB boss

THE Government will come under pressure in the coming days to deny AIB a request to remove a €500,000 cap on the salary for a new chief executive at the state-owned bank.

Finance Minister Michael Noonan has confirmed that the troubled bank has asked that the ceiling on pay be lifted so the troubled bank can appoint a new chief.

Mr Noonan is to examine the appeal but said AIB would have to make a special case for that to change.
