Councils to vote on supporting Norris

DAVID NORRIS’S last-ditch effort to beat the looming deadline for presidential nominations saw him plead for support from county councils last night.

Still six votes short of the 20 Oireachtas members he needs to secure a place on the ballot paper, the senator plans a frantic blitz of local authorities next week to try and beat the cut-off point for candidates.

With Fingal backing Mr Norris, he now needs the support of three other councils before the nominations close on september 28.
