A NEW €58 million palliative care centre and hospital was officially opened yesterday in Cork following the successful transfer of patients from the facility’s previous home on the northside of the city.

The now vacant St Patrick’s/Marymount site had been in use for over 100 years.

The hospital’s chief executive, Kevin O’Dwyer, said emotions ran high as 47 residents and patients moved from the facility on Wellington Road in Cork to a new state-of-the-art building, at Curraheen, on the southside of the city.
