INVESTIGATIONS are under way into a marine collision in which two bulk tankers sustained minor damage.

No injuries were reported and there was no pollution or environmental damage following the incident in Shannon estuary.

The ships involved were the tanker Tina Theresa with a cargo of alcoline, used in the petrochemical industry, and the 69,734 tonnes bulk carrier Irini with a cargo of bauxite bound for the Rusal alumina plant at Aughinish.
