TWELVE asylum seekers have been evicted from direct provision accommodation in the past 18 months, the Department of Justice has revealed.

The dozen asylum seekers were asked to leave various centres around the country as a result of unspecified behaviour, with the Reception and Integration Agency (RIA), who manage accommodation for those in direct provision, stating they “could not turn a blind eye”.

At present there are 40 accommodation centres around the country for 5,600 people. Not everyone in the Direct Provision system must stay in State-provided accommodation, with some opting to stay with friends or family.
