SuperValu cashier charged with theft
The Director of Public Prosecutions had indicated that the case could be dealt with at Cork District Court only on a plea of guilty.
Monika Wasinska, aged 28, was charged yesterday at Cork District Court with 19 counts of theft.
Garda Patrick Connery, who charged Wasinska, outlined the allegations so that Judge David Riordan could decide whether he would accept jurisdiction to deal with the case.
He said Wasinska was employed as a cashier at Barry Collins’s SuperValu in Carrigaline for five years.
It was alleged that between June 2010 and April 2011 she stole money from the cash register by voiding transactions and taking money.
The total allegedly taken was put at €9,929. The charges brought were effectively sample counts and referred to approximately €2,000 in total.
Judge Riordan accepted jurisdiction and adjourned the case until October 20.
