Health service expected to be €400m in debt by 2012
It is understood that during a three-hour meeting between all health service unions and senior HSE management, HSE finance director Liam Woods told unions that serious staff and service cutbacks must take place in order to address the surging costs.
He told senior representatives of the Irish Medical Organisation, Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO), Irish Hospital Consultants Association, IMPACT and SIPTU the system was €179m over-budget for the first half of this year.
