Fresh appeal over woman’s murder

GARDAÍ have issued a fresh appeal for information in relation to the murder of a Romanian woman in Dublin’s Phoenix Park.

Fresh appeal over woman’s murder

The call came on the second anniversary of the death of Eugenia Bratis.

The mother-of-two was violently stabbed to death in a wooded area of the park, near changing rooms where she had been sleeping rough for some time. Her body was found by two men out walking on the afternoon of August 5, 2009.

The woman’s identity remained a mystery for two weeks and was only revealed after gardaí took the unusual step of publishing photographs of her, as well as some personal belongings.

Gardaí traced her to Timisoara, where her husband and grown-up children lived in poor circumstances.

Ms Bratis was stabbed eight times in the neck and chest and showed no signs of struggle. Gardaí suspect there were at least two attackers and that one may have held her down while the other killed her, with robbery a likely motive.

Two Romanian men were arrested in November 2009, but this did not lead to a breakthrough.
