PEOPLE who experience childhood traumas may be more likely to suffer from chronic illness in later life.

Childhood link to later illness

A history of three of more childhood traumas, such as family violence or parents with a history of criminal behaviour or substance abuse, can be linked to the development of chronic pain.

Conditions they may suffer from include heart disease, asthma, arthritis, chronic spinal pain and chronic headaches.
