A COMPREHENSIVE report on how communities will be able to help tackle any future icy grips on Co Cork is being drawn up by county manager Martin Riordan.

Meanwhile, work is expected to start next month on the construction of two “salt barns” in Ballincollig and Skibbereen to ensure speedier and more efficient gritting on roads in mid- and west Cork. It is hoped to have the facilities in place by November.

Mr Riordan is also expected to deliver what has been dubbed the ‘de-icing’ report to the council’s 48 public representatives when they return from their summer holidays next month.
