THE Government last night admitted that 28 people in the public service are still earning more than the proposed €250,000 pay ceiling.

Public Expenditure and Reform Minister Brendan Howlin told the Dáil that 45 members of the judiciary, some hospital consultants and nine chief executives in commercial semi-states were also receiving salaries above the proposed cap.

The minister made his comments in the Dáil when addressing plans to reduce the number of public service workers.
