RTÉ hit with extra €20m loss in public funding

RTÉ will navigate financially choppy waters this year with an additional burden of €20 million because of reduced public funding and added regulatory costs, its chairman Tom Savage warned yesterday.

The broadcaster slashed its losses from €16.5m in 2009 to €4.7m last year, but warns of fresh uncertainties.

Mr Savage, speaking at the launch of RTÉ’s 2010 report, said the network made a remarkable turnaround in its financial situation last year but faced even more turbulent times ahead.
