Jail for assault on taxi driver

A CORK man has been jailed for two years for assaulting a 61-year-old taxi driver at his home and trying to rob his car.

Jail for assault on taxi driver

Roy Cambridge, aged 18, from Mangerton Close, The Glen, Cork, was charged with assault causing harm as the driver parked his own car and was about to enter his home in the St Luke’s area.

Cambridge tried to break in to the car moments after. When the owner, John Kelly, returned and told him to leave the car alone, Cambridge squared up to him holding a one-litre glass bottle.

Cambridge did not strike Mr Kelly with the bottle, but did punch him twice in the face, causing a split lip and a cut over his eye.
