Doyle pulls out of Áras race

FORMER MEP Avril Doyle has surprised Fine Gael by withdrawing from the race to be the party’s presidential candidate.

The decision leaves three candidates fighting for the nomination — MEPs Máiréad McGuinness and Gay Mitchell and former European Parliament chair Pat Cox.

The issue will be decided tomorrow when Fine Gael holds its selection convention in Dublin.
