THE Government will push ahead with a referendum proposal which would allow it to cut judges’ pay and determine the size of the cut.

The Cabinet decided yesterday to continue with its existing plans for the referendum, despite objections by the judiciary.

In a memo to Government, senior judges had argued an independent body should be established to assess the scale of the reduction for the judiciary.
