AN ELDERLY couple who became suspicious of a woman caller to their home in the lead-up to last February’s general election told gardaí they feared they were being targeted in a vote rigging scam.

They formed the impression that the woman was calling in an official capacity to collect their postal ballot papers but they became suspicious.

Pat O’Mahony, 86, from Lisanore, Castleisland, Co Kerry said the woman, who is from Castleisland, was known to him and he was aware she was a supporter of Michael Healy-Rae who subsequently won a seat in the election.
