Girl was plied with cigarettes before sex assault

A COURT has heard how a 67-year-old man plied a 13-year-old girl with cigarettes for a number of months before sexually assaulting her.

John Doyle, of Crookstown, Co Cork was jailed for two years, with the last 16 months suspended. He pleaded guilty to the sexual assault and his name was put on the Sex Offenders’ Register for 10 years.

The victim did not tell her parents but her mother spotted texts of a sexual nature on her daughter’s phone 10 days after the assault in April 2009.
