Men aged 46 to 55 and from all income groups are likely to have stopped playing sport and mainly to use their car as a mode of transport.

The Irish Sport Monitor Report — conducted by the Economic and Social Research Institute for the Irish Sports Council — says physical activity among middle-aged men is heavily reliant on recreational walking and this did not tend to pick up until closer to retirement.
