College launches media masters
The MA in Journalism with New Media due to begin in September will embrace print, broadcast and online journalism.
It will cover the theory and practice of journalism but will have a strong focus on practical work, using CIT’s radio, TV and film studio resources.
Course co-ordinator Frank O’Donovan said the course will pay particular attention to the growing importance of digital and interactive media in the industry. The modules include traditional print journalism and defamation law, as well as broadcast journalism, web writing, audio visual journalism and interactive web design.
It aims to produce graduates ready for entry-level positions in the media or capable of working freelance.
The course is accredited by the Higher Education and Training Awards Council and entrants will be expected to hold minimum of a 2.2 honours degree, or equivalent, and admission will be on the basis of interview and portfolio.
The 12-month programme has a taught element which runs for nine months and is followed by a research-based semester.
The course recognises prior learning and journalists will be considered for places on courses which can be tailored to run part-time.
