Red tape blocks ads to fill cancer treatment roles

KEY appointments to make cancer equipment available to hundreds of patients have not even been advertised, six months after the HSE was authorised to fill the roles.

It has emerged that three of the four jobs needed to bring the multimillion-euro PET/CT scanner at Cork University Hospital (CUH) on line are falling victim to bureaucratic red tape.

As a result, hundreds of cancer patients are being forced to undergo lengthy return trips to Dublin at the taxpayers’ expense to receive the care they need.
