ASTI calls for modernisation of agriculture syllabus
Peter Keaney, Association of Secondary Teachers Ireland (ASTI) spokesman on the subject, felt this was at the expense of many important parts of the agricultural side of the course. For example, he said, there was little or nothing asked of students about dairy, sheep or beef, which would always be expected on this exam.
Mr Keaney said nothing was asked about crops, except about fodder beet, with nothing on important crops like potatoes. He said it highlights a need to modernise the syllabus which he felt has not kept up to date with advances in agriculture.
