LIVES will be put at risk in east Cork, it has been claimed, as one of three out-of-hours SouthDoc cars is to be withdrawn from service due to cutbacks.

For a number of years, the cars have been based in Midleton, and serve the Carrigtwohill, Cobh, Midleton and Youghal areas at nights and weekends.

But a decision has been made to reduce the service which provides medical cover out of hours for an estimated 50,000 people.
