Listowel mourns loss of boy, 6, after fatal fall

A PARISH has been plunged into deep mourning following the death of a six-year-old boy who sustained serious head injuries in a fall at his home.

Listowel mourns loss of boy, 6, after fatal fall

Seán Dunne was critically injured earlier this month after falling from the attic on to the landing of the house.

He lost his battle for life in Cork University Hospital where his heartbroken parents had maintained a constant bedside vigil in recent weeks.

Seán had been rushed to Kerry General Hospital in Tralee by ambulance from the family home at Kenny Heights, Listowel, shortly after the tragic accident occurred.

He was immediately transferred to Cork for specialist treatment but doctors failed in a desperate bid to save his life.

Special prayers have been offered for Seán at his school and a special Mass for Seán was celebrated last week by Listowel parish priest Canon Declan O’Connor.

Canon O’Connor said the people of the town are now rallying around the Dunne family with their prayers and support.

Seán was a very popular pupil at Gaelscoil Lios Tuathail where prayers were recited again yesterday and every support was being offered to his young friends.

Seán was the youngest of three children and he is survived by his parents, Gerry and Pat, brother Mickey and sister Ciara.

The Dunne family relocated to Listowel in recent years following the decentralisation of the Revenue Commission offices where the boy’s father is employed.

Seán will be laid to rest in the John Paul II Cemetery, Listowel, this Wednesday following Mass of the Angels in St Mary’s Parish Church.
