Cox seeks Fine Gael support

PAT Cox will drop out of the presidential race if Fine Gael does not select him as its candidate for the Áras.

Mr Cox could, in theory, seek to run as an Independent candidate should he fail to secure the party’s nomination.

Despite having this option open to him, he insisted yesterday that this was a “one-shot opportunity,” saying: “I get the Fine Gael nomination or I don’t contest.”
