nister to probe cost of schoolbooks

A PROBE into the costs of schoolbooks is to be launched by Education Minister Ruairi Quinn.

The minister said he would abandon the traditional governmental stance of non-intervention in the matter as he was concerned about the financial burdens being placed on families.

Mr Quinn said he would meet with publishers to discuss claims of “mark-ups”, the price of books and the frequency with which they are replaced.
