Ireland’s population to reach 6.5m by 2060
While the number of people in most EU countries will have peaked within 20 years, the Irish population is the fastest-growing in the current bloc, and is set to increase by a massive 46% over the next 50 years to just over 6.5 million people.
At the moment, we are the 20th most populous country among the current 27 EU member states, but as other countries suffer declining populations, Ireland will rise to be the 16th by 2060.
