Hogan pledges to raise landfill charge by 150%

ENVIRONMENT Minister Phil Hogan has announced his intention to more than double the landfill charge to € 75 per tonne.

This represents a 150% increase on the current charge of €30, which had already represented a doubling of the levy last year by former Environment Minister John Gormley.

Minister Hogan said the increase would form part of a new waste management policy to be outlined by the end of the year and which will support both environmental and economic objectives.
