Local government reveals €23.5m bill for councillors’ salaries and expenses

COUNTY and city councillors were paid more than €23.5 million in salaries and expenses last year.

There are 883 councillors in the 34 local authorities nationwide. The figures provided demonstrate that the cost of local government has dropped significantly in the last two years as a result of a decrease in councillor’s salaries as well as the tightening of the expenses regime.
